MAKING 3D PRINTED EARRINGS

Recently, I’ve started making some fun earrings with my boyfriend. I design them on my iPad, then he magically prints them in resin or PLA, and I put them together. It’s been a nice little side project and going through the process has made me think about my creativity and how I judge the things I produce.

I’ve always struggled with my creativity. I feel like I’m a creative person, but I’ve never felt like I found my ideal outlet. I’m not great at drawing or painting, and I often get frustrated with my abilities without powering through to see the end results. But recently I’ve been trying to express my creativity without focusing on the results. I just want to create, it doesn’t matter what the end result is. I’m also starting to see that creativity can be expressed in so many different ways, creating a collage on my iPad can be creative, making earring designs can be creative, putting together a video can be creative.

Art is subjective. No matter what you produce you’ll find people who like it and people who don’t. And I think that’s important to keep in mind. Creativity is about the process, not the outcome. I used to be so focused on what I produced, and it’s hard to break away from that. But art is about expression, it’s supposed to be therapeutic or enjoyable. So I’ve been playing around with different mediums, like earrings and digital collages. And I’ve been putting both out there into the world, regardless of how I feel about them.
